TinyHaven: Crafting Dreamy Nurseries
Welcome to a world of endless possibilities—your baby's nursery! Designing a nursery is a wonderful journey that allows you to create a haven for your little one and you. Whether you're a parent-to-be or a seasoned pro looking to refresh the space, here are some tips and ideas to guide you in crafting a dreamy nursery.
1. Start with a Theme: Choose a theme that resonates with you and brings a sense of joy. From classic storybook characters to nature-inspired wonderlands, themes provide a cohesive and charming foundation for your nursery design. They keep you on track so you don’t squirrel like I do sometimes!
For my own nursery, I saw the prints of the animals and fell in love with making them a focus. They really created my theme of a mix between woodland and safari.
2. Soft and Soothing Colors: Opt for a soft and soothing color palette to create a calming atmosphere. Pastel tones like mint, lavender, and soft peach are popular choices that promote a serene and peaceful ambiance—perfect for your little one's naptime.
Colors can be tricky for some. Don’t be afraid to use colors that speak to you. The nursery is for your little one and you. No one else and don’t forget this. This is where you are going to spend hours upon hours so making sure your color scheme is calming to your family is what is most important.
For me, green is my favorite color and I knew that was going to help me get through the long sleeplessness nights as a nursing mom. I wanted to stay true to my vision.
Now there are a million “greens” out there. I selected a few different ones from Sherwin Williams. After that I taped them onto the wall so I could see which tone of green worked best in my space. I highly suggest if you are not confident in paint to buy the sample paint and add them to your walls. Take a couple days to look at them and trust your GUT!
3. Functional Furniture: Invest in functional furniture that grows with your child. A convertible crib, for example, can transform into a toddler bed, extending its usefulness beyond the baby years. Choose furniture that complements your theme while prioritizing safety and durability.
Furniture is so important in your nursery. Remember you will be sitting in that rocker or slider for a long time so make sure it is cozy! This is one mistake I made in my own. I loved my rocker for my first little one but using it for my second it was not nearly as comfortable. I wish I would have upgrade this but you live and you learn.
Size of the chair is important too. Is your nursery large, medium, or small? Make sure it does not take over your space. I went with a smaller rocker because of the size of the room and it is perfect for my space. If I had a larger room I would have gone with a larger slider for comfort and to fit the space.
The crib is your focal in my opinion. Your little one will sleep in this bed their first night “away” from you so make it a piece you enjoy. There are a million options too. Wood, metal, black, brown, white, gray, anything you can think most likely you can find now. I choose to stick with a walnut wood because I knew we wanted 2 kids and I wanted it to be versatile no matter if it was a boy or girl. We had 2 boys!
4. Personal Touches: Infuse the space with personal touches that make it uniquely yours. Consider adding personalized artwork, monogrammed items, or family heirlooms. These elements add a sentimental touch and make the nursery a special place for both you and your baby.
